Young Life 'officially' begins in the auburn-opelika area
In 2001, Jim Akin was hired to be the first full time Area Director in our area. However, Young Life ministry did not start with the hiring of Jim. During the previous five years, Auburn University students, being supervised by the Young Life staff in Columbus, Georgia, were trained and served as Young Life leaders at Glenwood Academy and Smiths Station High School where they sought to introduce teenagers to Jesus Christ.

Currently, 11 schools in our area have Young Life ministry, reaching out to 10,210 teenagers. Over the next five years, our vision and hope is to begin Young Life in surrounding schools to be able to reach the remaining 4,071 kids.

Biff Woodruff, Committee Chair
Committee is the foundation for Young Life in a local area. Oftentimes, new Young Life clubs start because of the interest and awareness created by the committee. We also welcome the involvement of adult Young Life alumni, whose enthusiasm about their Young Life experiences is valuable to a committee. If you are interested in serving as a part of our committee, please contact our Young Life office.
