YOUNG LIFE 'OFFICIALLY' BEGINS IN THE AUBURN-OPELIKA AREA
In 2001, Jim Akin was hired to be the first full time Area Director in our area. However, Young Life ministry did not start with the hiring of Jim. During the previous five years, Auburn University students, being supervised by the Young Life staff in Columbus, Georgia, were trained and served as Young Life leaders at Glenwood Academy and Smiths Station High School where they sought to introduce teenagers to Jesus Christ.

NUMBER OF VOLUNTEER LEADERS REACHING OUT TO KIDS IN OUR AREA
Over 170 volunteer Leaders are currently reaching out to kids in our area, doing ministry at 11 local high schools and middle schools, as well as newer Young Life College and Capernaum ministries being started and developed. Each leader spends 6-10 hours each week in the world of kids, which means 1,800 hours/week, 7,200 hours/month, 64,800 hours/year in the world of kids with the hope they hear and believe in a God who loves them beyond anything they could ever imagine.

THE NUMBER OF MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN OUR AREA
There are 14,281 middle school and high school students in our area. Each one of those teenagers has the right to hear the news about Jesus Christ and the great love He has for each of them. Currently, 11 schools in our area have Young Life ministry, reaching out to 10,210 teenagers. Over the next five years, our vision and hope is to begin Young Life in surrounding schools to be able to reach the remaining 4,071 kids.

Kids involved weekly
Since, 1995, Young Life leaders have walked with kids and earned the right to be heard in an exhausting and exciting world. In the 2023-2024 school year, over 550 kids were involved every week in our area.
